LensPen NLP-1 Lens Cleaning Pen: What to Know
The mechanism is the reason this exists rather than a cheaper cloth. The tip carries a patented carbon compound, and LensPen's claim is that carbon absorbs oils and contaminants rather than pushing them around, which is why the pen works dry. A twist cap re-charges the tip with compound each time you close it, so the consumable is replenished inside the pen rather than bought separately. The tip is 12 mm across and slightly concave, shaped to sit against the convex curve of a front element instead of contacting it at a single point.
The other end is a retractable natural-bristle brush, and the two-tools-in-one layout is the practical argument for the NLP-1 over a bare cloth: brush loose particles aside, then work the tip in small circles from the centre outward. The full-size pen measures about 11 cm long, so it rides in a jacket pocket. LensPen puts the rated life at around 500 cleans, and describes the compound as non-toxic with nothing to spill, drip or dry out, which is the real advantage over carrying a bottle of fluid.
Sourcing caveat, stated plainly: LensPen's own product page for the NLP-1 returns a 404 at the time of writing, so the 500-clean rating, the 11 cm length and the 12 mm tip diameter are manufacturer copy as reproduced on retailer listings rather than figures we could read off the maker's site. We have not verified the clean count, and there is no obvious way for a buyer to either, it is a manufacturer estimate, not a measurement. Treat it as an order of magnitude.
