Kodak Dock Plus: What to Know
A disclosure up front: this guide originally set out to evaluate the Epson PictureMate PM-400. During verification, Epson's own product page listed the PM-400 as "Out of Stock" with a "Notify Me" option and no restock date, Newegg's listing showed the same out-of-stock status, and we could not get a reliable, consistent read on live Amazon purchase availability for it either. Rather than recommend a printer you might not actually be able to buy, we substituted the Kodak Dock Plus, a real, current-generation printer confirmed for sale on Amazon that fills a similar role: an affordable, high-volume, home 4x6 photo printer.
The Dock Plus uses Kodak's 4PASS dye-sublimation process, printing color in three passes plus a clear protective laminate layer, which Kodak says gives finished prints resistance to water, fingerprints, and fading. Kodak's own materials put print time at around 55 seconds per 4x6 photo. Where it differs from the Canon SELPHY CP1500's approach is the connection method: you can either physically dock your phone on top of the printer (which also charges the phone while it prints) or connect over Bluetooth without docking, using the Kodak Photo Printer app to crop, edit, and queue prints.
Consumables come as paper-and-cartridge bundles rather than separate ink and paper purchases, sold in the Amazon listing in a few different sheet-count sizes (we saw 10-, 50-, and 130-sheet bundles), which is worth comparing against Canon's KP-108IN-style bundles if per-print cost matters to you; we're not quoting an exact price-per-print figure here since bundle pricing shifts.
As the substitute pick in this guide, treat this section a little differently than the others: we haven't independently verified Kodak's specific print-quality claims against Canon's or Epson's the way a hands-on lab test would, we're reporting Kodak's own published specs and confirming the listing is real and current, which is the standard we held every product in this guide to.
