ghd Chronos Styler: What to Know
ghd's Chronos line takes a different approach than most of the irons on this list: instead of a range of heat settings, it locks to a single, factory-set 365°F and uses what ghd calls HD motion-responsive technology to adjust power output in real time as you move the plates through your hair, aiming to hold that temperature steady rather than let it dip mid-stroke. ghd's own marketing claims this adds up to 3x faster styling and results that hold for up to 24 hours, figures that come from the brand, not from our own testing.
We picked the 1-inch Black configuration (Amazon ASIN B0CPRFL5BF) over ghd's several limited-edition colorways because it's the standard, most consistently available version of this model. Note that ghd also sells a separate "Chronos Max" styler with 2-inch plates aimed at longer or thicker hair; that's a different product, not a size variant of the Chronos Styler reviewed here.
The tradeoff for that simplicity is the fixed 365°F ceiling. ghd positions this as a safety and consistency feature, and for fine, medium, or color-treated hair it's generally plenty. If your hair is very coarse, very thick, or tightly coiled and typically needs more heat to fully smooth in one pass, an iron with a higher, adjustable maximum like the BaBylissPRO or CHI models below may suit you better.
