DEWALT DCHT821B 20V MAX 22 in. Brushless Cordless Hedge Trimmer (substituted for DEWALT DCHT820B): What to Know
We started this research on the DEWALT DCHT820B, the model originally proposed for this list, and found that DeWalt's own product page labels it "Discontinued." Its direct successor on the same 20V MAX platform is the DCHT821B: a brushless motor in essentially the same 22-inch hedge trimmer body, redesigned to be about 39% more compact than the outgoing DCHT820. We're recommending the DCHT821B here instead, and calling out the swap explicitly since the model number differs from the original candidate.
Like its predecessor, the DCHT821B ships as a bare tool: no battery, no charger. That's a real consideration if you're not already on DeWalt's 20V MAX system, since you'll need to add a compatible battery and charger (or buy one of DeWalt's kit bundles, sold under a different SKU) to actually use it out of the box. If you already own 20V MAX batteries for a drill, driver, or other DeWalt tool, that's a non-issue and this becomes one of the cheaper ways into a capable hedge trimmer.
The blade is laser-cut with a hooked-tooth profile rated for branches up to 3/4 inch thick, and DeWalt includes a friction clutch that's designed to slip rather than transmit the full shock load back through the gearbox if the blade jams on something the trimmer isn't meant to cut, a small mechanical safeguard worth knowing about. At roughly 6.6 pounds bare, it's on the lighter end of the 22-24 inch class, which matters on longer sessions or when reaching up into taller hedge tops.
