Is this the same as the full-size Apex Pro Gen 3?

No. It uses the same OmniPoint 3.0 switch technology and feature set as the full-size Gen 3, but it's a separate TKL (no numpad) SKU with its own Amazon listing.

Can I hot-swap the switches on the Apex Pro TKL Gen 3?

No. Unlike the Keychron Q1 Max or Corsair K70 MAX in this guide, the Apex Pro Gen 3's OmniPoint 3.0 switches are not user-swappable.

SteelSeries Apex Pro Gen 3: What to Know

SteelSeries sells the Apex Pro Gen 3 lineup across several sizes and connection types, including full-size wired, TKL wired, TKL wireless, and a Mini Gen 3. We're specifying the TKL Gen 3 wired configuration in this entry, since that's the version we were able to match to a current Amazon listing (ASIN B0DF2QL2GK) alongside consistent manufacturer product imagery; the same OmniPoint 3.0 switch technology and feature set carries across the full-size and TKL versions, but they are separate SKUs with separate listings, so buyers who specifically want a numpad should look for the full-size Gen 3 listing instead.

Like the Corsair K70 MAX, this uses magnetic Hall-effect switches rather than traditional mechanical ones, branded OmniPoint 3.0. SteelSeries states 40 adjustable actuation levels spanning 0.1mm to 4.0mm, along with Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap/SOCD, and a SteelSeries-specific Protection Mode that widens the actuation window on surrounding keys to reduce mis-presses during fast gaming inputs. GG QuickSet software applies auto-presets tuned per game rather than requiring fully manual tuning for every title.

Unlike the Corsair board, the Apex Pro Gen 3's switches are not hot-swappable at all, not even with other SteelSeries switches; they're fixed once installed. The keyboard connects over wired USB-C, is rated by SteelSeries at a 1000Hz polling rate, and includes a built-in OLED Smart Display for adjusting actuation, viewing settings, and controlling media without needing to alt-tab out of a game.

Build details include PBT keycaps, triple-layer sound-dampening foam, and per-key lubrication, aimed at reducing the hollow or rattly sound some magnetic-switch keyboards are known for. RGB lighting is included, and the layout drops the numpad in exchange for a smaller desk footprint compared to the full-size Corsair K70 MAX.
